BBM for iOS Now Available for Download

BlackBerry has just updated the iOS version of BBM with lots of new features and improvements, which are meant to expand support to more devices and enhance overall user experience.

The most important change is the addition of support for Wi-Fi only iPad and iPod Touch devices. In addition, developers included a new feature that allows users to invite BBM contacts to BBM Groups by email. Another new feature called “Tell your friends” provides users with the option to connect with friends on BlackBerry Messenger. There's more to it, as BlackBerry announced you can now quickly share BBM PIN and PIN barcode to any of your social network accounts.

The latest update also fixes and issue where some users would be missing BBM Contacts names and addresses some problems experienced in right to left language support. Other bug fixes and performance improvements have been included as well, but no additional details have been provided. You can now download BBM for iOS for free via iTunes Apps Store. Keep in mind that the application is now fully compatible with all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices powered by iOS 6.0 and up.

Download BBM for iPad and iPod Touch

Good news for iOS users anxious to get the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) on their currently not supported devices, as the Canadian company has just released the popular instant messenger for Wi-Fi only iPad and iPod Touch devices.

The application brings the same set of features available on both Android and iOS versions, so expect BBM Groups, Multi-person chats, Broadcast messages and a lot more. BlackBerry launched BBM for iOS and Android last month, but some of the features now available on its proprietary BlackBerry platform have not been introduced in these versions.

However, the company confirmed it will expand BBM support to more devices and platforms and it will bring most of the missing features, such as BBM Channels, BBM Voice and BBM Video, on Android and iOS via updates. You can now download BBM for iPad and iPod Touch via App Store for free. Keep in mind the application should work on all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices powered by iOS 6.0 and up.

BlackBerry C-Series Smartphones Leaks in New Photos

Canadian mobile phone maker BlackBerry has been long rumored to plan the launch of an entry-level BlackBerry C-Series smartphone, and some new photos with the device have leaked online.

Little is known on the handset itself for the time being, but rumor has it that it would fit in BlackBerry’s roadmap right next to the Q5. As CrackBerry notes, the smartphone will feature some similarities with the BlackBerry Z10 and Z30 smartphones, and could very well be released as the Z5. The newly leaked images with the phone, available courtesy of CrackBerry forums and extracted from a BB10 help file, do not unveil much on it either, though they do suggest that the handset vendor is still working on this device.

They also unveil that two different versions of the smartphone might be launched at some point in the future, provided that BlackBerry is indeed still aiming at launching a new cheap handset.

AMD's First Supercomputing Graphics Card, FirePro S10000 12 GB Edition

AMD tried its hand at supercomputing GPU accelerators with the FireStream line a while ago, but little came of it, mostly because NVIDIA's Tesla stole the show. Now, it's trying again.

This time, however, AMD is going with its other professional brand, FirePro, the one normally reserved for workstation and professional graphics cards. The new accelerator is called AMD FirePro S10000 12 GB Edition and uses ECC memory on the PCI Express 3.0 interface. The GPU is, obviously, based on the latest GCN architecture (GraphicsCore Next).

So, saying that this is the “first” supercomputing graphics card is kind of a stretch, but it's also true that the GPU accelerators usually lack video outputs, which is not the case here (there's DVI and HDMI). Thus, it should be good for virtualization/visualization servers, and various workstations, not just high-performance computing (HPC) workloads (although single precision and double precision performance is high).
