PoV GTX 680 Beast, World’s Fastest Pre-Overclocked GTX680 Card




The competition for the fastest Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 graphics card design seems to have been won by Point of View’s GeForce GTX 680 “BEAST/Backplate” video card using a rather simplistic cooling system and PCB.

Don’t get us wrong, there is nothing simple about a GTX 680 PCB, but Point of View’s card doesn’t benefit from all the enhancements some Zotac GXT 680 cards come with. The cooling system is comprised of two heatsinks cooled by three coolers. The side coolers are 8 centimeters in diameter, while the center cooler is 9-centimeter wide. The first heatsink has two heatpipes drawing heat from the central GPU contact plate and the second heatsink has three. While the cooling system is very capable and well designed, we can say that we’re not impressed, as we’ve seen much better with other occasions. On the other hand, Point of View has strong confidence in its PCB and cooling system design and has decided to clock the GeForce GTX 680 “BEAST/Backplate” video card’s GPU at a very high 1162MHz. Fudzilla’s Sanjin Rados has already tested the new card from Point of View and he confirms that this is the fastest factory overclock on a GTX 680 video card at the moment.

The cooling system is very quiet even during prolonged gaming sessions, and the test sample has never surpassed the 71 degrees Celsius temperature level. There is no information of pricing yet, but the card is estimated to be priced at more than €550, which is more than $675 for the American buyers. Therefore, if you want the fastest GTX 680 graphics card based on Nvidia’s new Kepler architecture, but don’t want to dabble in overclocking, you have to make sure you have the right finances.

GeForce GTX 690 Dual GPU Video Card Officially Presented




Nvidia has just announced the GeForce GTX 690 dual GPU video card, on its official website. This is a design that’s surprisingly close to the GTX 680 SLI specifications and, just as we've said, it launches just a month later after the GTX 680.

The new GTX 690 is powered by two fully fledged GK104 very efficient GPUs. As we already suspected here, the GTX 690 design will not handicap the GK104 GPU like the GTX 590 did. 

GTX 590 has significantly lower GPU and memory frequencies, but that was expected at the time as the regular GTX 580 card has a TDP of almost 250 watts. Doubling that would have meant that the dual GPU GTX 590 was supposed to handle and be able to cool a huge 500 watts worth of heat.

So Nvidia instead went for a more modest clocking of the GPUs mounted in the GTX 590 card.

Situation is much different with the GK104. The efficient design of the architecture and close collaboration with the GPU’s manufacturer TSMC, yielded a generation of GPUs with much lower heat dissipation than the older 40 nm GeForce 580.

Therefore the GTX 690 card will sport the same 6008 MHz GDDR5 memory frequency despite the fact that it will come with a 2 x 2 GB memory configuration. The memory BUS width will be the same 256 Bit in a 2 x 256 Bit configuration.

As each GK104 GPU is comprised of 3.5 billion transistors, the GTX 690 video card will come with a total of 7 billion transistors built on TSMC’s 28 nm process and offering an architecture that’s capable of 1/24 FP32 double precision floating point.

So, we have 2 x 1536 CUDA cores clocked at a decent 915 MHz base clock with the possibility of a boost clock of 1019 MHz.

Thus Nvidia’s dual GPU combination of the GK104 GPUs will come with a 9% lower core clock and just a 3.5% lower boost clock. Basically we have double GeForce GTX 680 performance in a single card.

As we’ve said before, the GK104 design on the 28 nm process is so efficient that it’s expectated that Nvidia won’t have to do too much binning to find GPUs with higher than average power qualities. The GTX 580 GPUs that were suitable for the GTX 590 dual GPU configuration were much more rare and harder to find than the GK104 GPUs.

The default power target for the GTX 690 board is 263 watts. That’s the full load power of the card without benefiting from any boost in GPU clocks. The total TDP is 300 watts.

Power will be administrated through two 8-pin power connectors that will allow the card to draw up to a high 375 watts. So overclockers should be quite safe and achieve good results even with the standard design.

Cleaning and leveling the current will be taken care of by the card’s 10 power phases, 5 phases for each GPU.

Software wise the GTX 690 will have an adjustable power target and clock frequency just like the GTX 680 has. NVIDIA’s GTX 690 has a max power target of plus 35%, which given the card’s default power target of 263 watts means you can set it up in the software and allow it to draw up to 355 watts of power.

New to the dual GPU GTX 690 is the use of the PLX PCIe 3.0 bridge chip. Nvidia’s previous dual GPU card, the GTX 590 was still using the NF200 PCIe bridge chip designed by Nvidia’s own chipset division. Since Nvidia’s chipset division has been restructured and the NF200 chip was a PCIe 2.0 bridge, the company went to a 3rd party for a new PCIe 3.0 certified bridge.

While Nvidia has not yet released the full specifications of the card, we can easily see is the official pictures that the cooling system has one big fan in the middle of the card that’s pushing the hot air out in the front and back of the card. This means that the hot air coming from cooling the GPU situated first on the left will go out of the system case and in the back of the computer. The hot air coming from the right GPU will be unfortunately blown inside the case.

This design has its advantages. As the GTX 690 is not such a hot card as the GTX 590 was, the amount of heat dissipated inside the case will be practically less than what a normal single GPU GTX 680 would dissipate in all those custom designs that aren’t pushing the heat out.

Therefore the rotation speed of this central fan will be much lower than a turbine-like back blowing fan. Those turbine-like fans usually have to rotate faster than this design as they’re pushing the air through a much longer tunnel and the friction of the air with the fins is slowing the air speed down. Thus a back, turbine-like fan needs to spin at a higher speed to compensate.

The cooling is using two separate vapor chamber radiators located on the two GPUs. 

This is the first time we’ve seen a vapor chamber used with a 600 series card.

On the connectivity side, Nvidia is using the same 3x DL-DVI and 1x miniDP port configuration that we saw on the GTX 590.

Pricing is quite an unfortunate surprise.

It seems that Nvidia wants to ride the wave of Kepler’s popularity and, at least until AMD launches its own dual GPU card, the official price will be a record 999 USD. That’s around 750 EUR for the European gamers, but we expect that Nvidia won’t miss the chance to overcharge them and we expect prices closer to the 900 EUR mark.

This makes the GTX 690 the most expensive GeForce card in the history of the company. Even the 2007 launched GeForce 8800 Ultra seems cheap at its official launch price of 830 USD.

Since TSMC is so capacity constrained and the demand for regular GTX 680 is so high, the initial availability of the GTX 690 card will appear similar to a paper launch, but that’s not the case. Nvidia has everything it needs to make as many GTX 690 card as the customers want, but right now, since there are so many GTX 680 customers, the GTX 690 will be quite rare as most of the GPU’s will go the GTX 680 way.

Wider availability is expected on May the 7th while the initial reviews should be popping up in the next two days.

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 Overclock Edition 4GB, Triple-Slot GeForce GTX 680 Graphics Card with 4GB Memory




The world of high-end graphics adapters has become a bit larger now that Gigabyte has finished its latest and arguably greatest GeForce GTX 680 board, with WindForce 3X cooling and more memory than all the others in its collection.

We suspect that prospective buyers will be torn between considering this the best of Gigabyte's GeForce GTX 680 cards or going with the GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 5X. For what it's worth, we think that the GTX 680 Overclock Edition 4GB (GA-N680OC-4GD) is the better choice, for several reasons. The first is that the price of $800 / 622-800 Euro (as revealed by some buyers through Chinese forums) is lower than the $870 / 670-870 Euro of the five-fan monstrosity. The second is that the three fans of the newcomer (as many as the copper heatpipes) make for a lower level of noise. While the WindForce 5X did not add to the decibels, it did not reduce the volume either, so the board still produces 40dB or so, while the GTX 680 Overclock Edition 4GB runs at 28.3 dB under the Furmark test.

The third point is the following: this is the very first of Gigabyte's Geforce GTX 680 adapters to boast 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM instead of two (though not the first such item in the market). Coupled with the clock speeds of the GPU and the memory itself, the performance should be more than a match for that of the WindForce 5X. To elaborate, the 5X features a base speed of 1,137 MHz and can rise to 1202 MHz via GPU Boost. WindForce 3X is just 66 / 65 MHz behind, but the extra 2 GB of memory (256-bit interface, speed left at the normal 6 GHz) will give it an edge in multi-monitor setups. As a bonus, Gigabyte's creation supports OpenGL 4.2 (NVIDIA's original card supports 4.1), Ultra Durable VGA technology (5-10% cooler GPU, 10-30% better overclocking, improved power switching), the OC Guru II and a gold-plated HDMI output.

Gigabyte has added the high-grade adapter to its website, but has yet to officially announce availability and the price. We have only learned the tag, and that shipments are already being carried out, thanks to Chinese buyers that took to online forums.

New Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Pictures Reach the Web




Rumored to launch in a little bit more than a week, Nvidia’s upcoming GeForce GTX 680 graphics card, based on the Kepler GK104 core, starred in a new series of pictures that show the card in greater detail than before.

The pictures came our way courtesy of Chip Hell, the same Chinese website that uncovered some of the first images of the GTX 680.

At a first look, Nvidia’s reference design for the GeForce GTX 680 doesn’t seem to differ all that much from the previous-generation GTX 570/GTX 580, outside of the stacked PCIe power connectors found at the rear of the card.

The pictures also reveal that Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 680 will be compatible with 4-way SLI setups, while the rear video connector configuration includes HDMI, DisplayPort and dual DVI outputs.

No detail regarding the specs of the GTX 680 has been revealed, but previous reports indicate that the GK104 graphics core this is based upon includes 1,536 CUDA cores and a 256-bit memory interface, coupled with either 2GB or 4GB of GDDR5 memory running at 1,500MHz (6,000MHz data rate).

With the GK104 GPU, Nvidia is also rumored to introduce a new technology called Dynamic Clock Adjustment.

Apparently, this works similarly to Intel’s Turbo Boost technology to automatically increase the graphics core frequency with 5 to 7 percent when the video card works bellow its rated TDP.

The GTX 680 is said to have a 190W TDP and Heise.de revealed at the end of last week that it should be about 10% faster than the Radeon HD 7970 in Battlefield 3, while in 3DMark 11 it falls behind AMD’s creation.

The GeForce GTX 680 is expected to be launched next week, on March 22, and is rumored to carry a $549 (about 417 EUR) price tag.

KFA2 Launches Overclocked GTX 680 Graphics Cards




Two more versions of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 graphics card have appeared, although it might be more accurate to say that two existing cards have gained new names.

KFA2 is the one making the news, having introduced the GeForce GTX 680 EX OC Series, and the GTX 680 Limited Edition OC.

Given that KFA2 is Galaxy's European brand, these two are just the Galaxy GTX 680 GC and Galaxy GTX 680 Hall of Fame under different names.

We'll get the GTX 680 Limited Edition OC out of the way first, since it won't be around for all that long. It is a limited edition after all.

The Kepler GK104 graphics processing unit (GPUs) sits on a white PCB (printed circuit board) and has clock speeds of 1,202 MHz (base) and 1,267 MHz (GPU Boost).

A triple-fan cooler will keep the heat in check for both the chip and the 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM and KFA2 even tossed in an HDMI output, a display port and two dual-link DVI ports.

That's right, the photo is, apparently, wrong in showing those four outputs. The other video card, GTX 680 EX OC Series, can have both 2 GB and 4 GB memory capacities, depending on customer choice.

The base clock speed of the GPU is 1,110 MHz (base) and 1,176 MHz (GPU Boost). Video outputs are the same as above.

For the sake of comparison, the reference card has the GPU clocked at 1,006 MHz (base) and 1,058 MHz (GPU Boost).

The KFA2 adapters run the memory at 6 GHz and will have prices higher than the $499 / 470 Euro of the original. If you live in Europe, but haven't yet made a new PC, or upgraded your old one, you might want to check your local retailers for these two.

Point of View 1111 MHz GTX 680 UltraCharged 4 GB Graphics Card




Point of View has prepared a very nice surprise of the video card enthusiasts. The company has just launched a special version of Nvidia’s GTX 680 video card that uses hand-picked GPUs and double the usual video memory along with a triple-fan cooler.

The new card from Point of View is officially called POV/TGT GeForce GTX 680 4GB UltraCharged “LOW LEAKAGE SELECTION” and these cards use selected GK104 Kepler GPUs that naturally have lower than usual current leakage. The low current leakage in the GK104 chips used for POV’s GeForce GTX 680 4GB UltraCharged allows the GPU to clock stably at much higher frequencies while generating less heat. The default base frequency of the Kepler GPU mounted on POV’s new video cards is an impressive 1111 Mhz, TechPowerUp reports. We don’t have any info on the boost option and what frequency that could achieve, but the card is also considerably modified from the usual GTX 680 graphics adapter.

POV’s GeForce GTX 680 4GB UltraCharged comes with the company’s well-known triple-slot and triple-fan cooling system, and it also packs 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory. Nvidia’s GK104 Kepler GPU is built at TSMC in 28nm manufacturing technology. It has around 3.5 billion transistors and uses a 256-bit memory BUS to connect to the standard 2 GB of GDDR5 memory. The GPU excels in graphics and gaming while having abysmal double precision floating point performance, but it is likely a design decision from Nvidia itself. The GeForce GTX 680 4GB UltraCharged is priced at 600 EUR for European buyers and that means that Americans will have to shell out about $743 for the “low leakage” version.

Axigon GeForce GTX 680 Temple Edition Comes with Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus




Axigon is a less known Chinese video card manufacturer, but it seems like the company is planning or getting better aquatinted with 3D enthusiasts as it’s preparing a custom designed Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 card.

The new toy is designated Axigon GeForce GTX 680 Temple Edition and, although we don’t have any definite info on the working frequencies or the price, it seems to be targeting the high-end market, as it comes with high-quality components and custom cooling, videocardz reported. The Accelero Xtreme Plus is a triple-slot cooling solution known for its high efficiency and low noise.

The PCB uses a 8 (for the GPU) + 2 (for the memory) phase power design and comes with CHiL’s CHL8318 power controller, DirectFET filters and tantalum capacitors. There’s no info on pricing or availability, but we know that there will be a 2 GB and a 4 GB version.

EVGA Releases GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature Cards




As NVIDIA has ceased manufacturing GeForce GTX 580 graphics cards, the GTX 680 collection continues to grow, in no small part thanks to the company's OEMs, in this case EVGA. 

One would think that there are already more than sufficient versions of the GeForce GTX 680 graphics card to go around. 

Alas, EVGA does not share this view, or at least doesn't think “enough” necessarily means that there is no room for more. 

What the company did was launch the GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature and Signature+ video controllers. 

Like all their peers/rivals, they rely on the GK104 Kepler graphics processing unit (GPU). 

The clock speeds are as follows: 1,084 MHz for the base GPU clock (instead of 1,006 MHz), 1,150 MHz for the GPU boost clock (1,058 MHz stock) and 6,208 MHz for the 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM (6,008 MHz stock). 

Indeed, both the Signature and Signature+ share the same speed settings, leaving it to the cooler to set them apart. 

Then again, that isn't quite true. The cooler is the same, but the Signature+ has a backplate, for extra heat dissipation. 

Every other asset of the GTX 680 is similar to those on the original release: a memory interface of 256 bits, 1,536 CUDA cores, compatibility with the PCI Express 3.0 interface and four display outputs: two DVI, one HDMI and a DisplayPort connector. 

Finally, EVGA chose a 5 phase PWM design for the newcomers and equipped them with an 8-pin and a 6-pin PCI Express power connector (the stock board has two 6-pin plugs). 

Dropping by the EVGA website will net prospective buyers all the information, down to the price tag: the GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature is rated at $529.99 / 403 Euro, while the GeForce GTX 680 SC Signature+, backplate and all, costs $549.99 / 418 Euro. Alas, shipments aren't being carried out yet.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 Price Reportedly Set at $499 (375 EUR)




Rumored for quite some time to be released at a $549 price point, Nvidia’s upcoming GeForce GTX 680 graphics card based on the company’s Kepler architecture is now said to be priced at $499 (about 375 EUR).

According to Fudzilla, Nvidia’s add-in board (AIB) partners have received the new price earlier this morning.

No reason for this alleged price cut was given, but this makes the GTX 680 a much better deal than before, especially considering the leaked benchmarks to show up so far, that place its performance over that of the AMD Radeon HD 7970.

Despite the new $499 price tag received by the company’s AIBs, the card’s official "Recommended Retail Price" or European price still hasn’t been provided by Nvidia, so things could still change in this regard.

The GK104 graphics core the GTX 680 is said to be based upon packs 1536 stream processors, and a 256-bit wide memory bus that is connected to 2GB of video buffer.

Nvidia has apparently clocked the VRAM at an impressive 1,500MHz (6GHz data rate), while the base GPU frequency is set at 1,006MHz.

As we previously revealed, Nvidia’s next-generation Kepler graphics core will also feature support for a new technology called Dynamic Clock Adjustment.

Apparently, this works similarly to Intel’s Turbo Boost technology to automatically increase the graphics core frequency to a maximum of 1058MHz, when the video card works below its rated TDP.

Speaking of TDP, the GTX 680 is expected to fit inside a 195 Watt thermal envelope, and gets its power from two 6-pin PCI Express connectors that are stacked one on top of the other at the rear of the PCB.

As far as the video output configuration is concerned, the GTX 680 will come equipped with a pair of dual-link DVI ports, an HDMI port, as well as with a DisplayPort 1.2 connector. The GeForce GTX 680 is expected to be made official on March 22.

KFA2 GeForce GTX 680 Hall of Fame Appears




Soon, there will be yet another GeForce GTX 680 graphics card for sale, one that only European stores will get to see, not that the US won't have something similar on hand. 

The new NVIDIA Kepler-based video controller bears the KFA2 brand and, rather than being formally launched, got listed earlier than intended in the UK. 

For those who do not know, KFA2 is Galaxy's Europe brand, which is why US customers won't be seeing the newcomer. 

Speaking of which, the graphics board is called GeForce GTX 680 Hall of Fame, or HOF for short. 

It uses an unusual white PCB (printed circuit board) and has a custom cooler too, not that the latter is all that surprising. 

Speaking of customizations, it bears mentioning that the GTX 680 HOF boasts CPL-made single-phase chokes, International Rectifier DirectFET and tantalum capacitors. 

In other words, it is one of the toughest GTX 680 boards to grace the market, or will be as soon as it actually arrives. 

Another thing that stands out is the presence of two 8-pin PCI Express power connectors. 

If we didn't already have the specs spelled out, that would have been more than enough to imply high factory overclocking. 

That said, the GK104 GPU is made to run at 1,202 MHz by default, and 1,267 MHz when GPU Boost is in effect. 

The numbers are far beyond even those on the ASUS GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II TOP, which we wrote about yesterday (April 20, 2012). 

The 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM were left to work at the same 6,008 MHz as the reference video board. 

Other specs include a Galaxy GX31 custom controller for the VRM (software voltage control, monitoring and power draw tracking over SMBUS), a 256-bit memory interface and, of course, a special cooler, with three 90mm LED fans and aluminum fins. 

Finally, KFA2 gave the GTX 680 HOF three mini DisplayPort outputs and a standard DisplayPort, rather than one DisplayPort, two DVI and HDMI. The price is £529.99, or $854 / 646 Euro.

EVGA Presents Two GeForce GTX 680 FTW Video Cards




Quality video card manufacturer EVGA has just launched its GeForce GTX 680 FTW Edition graphics cards, on its official website. FTW is short for “for the win,” and it seems to be a statement from the manufacturer that the boards are different from the plain GTX 680 cards out now.

The series includes two variants, a 2 GB variant (with the 02G-P4-3686-KR product number) and a 4 GB one (with the 04G-P4-3687-KR product number).

The 2 GB version comes with overclocked memory. This is the only GTX 680 that comes with pre-overclocked memory that we can think of this instant.

This 2 GB GTX 680 GTW card features clock speeds of 1,110 MHz for the core base, 1,176 MHz when the boost is activated and 6.20 GHz effective memory frequency.

The 4 GB version comes with a Backplate that will offer more structural integrity to the card and default reference clock speeds for the memory and GPU.

Both cards utilize EVGA's Signature board design. The 4 GB variant, on the other hand, will also have the clock speeds of 1,110 MHz for the core base, 1,176 MHz when the boost is activated. That’s also higher than the reference default, but the memory clock speed is left untouched, at 6.00 GHz.

Both cards draw power from 6-pin + 8-pin power connectors. The EVGA GTX 680 FTW 2 GB is priced at 569.99 USD, while the EVGA GTX 680 FTW 4 GB w/backplate costs 629.99 USD.

That means 438 EUR for the European buyers as far as the 2 GB is concerned and 484 EUR for the 4 GB card with the backplate, although we anticipate the expected overcharge the Europeans are used to and we believe the prices will be closer to the 450 EUR and 650 EUR marks.

Gainward and Palit Launch 4 GB GeForce GTX 680 Cards




It looks like it wasn't enough for Palit Microsystems and Gainward that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards is the best single-GPU graphics card so far. 

Sure, the Kepler-based video board did not win all possible tests, but it still showed an edge while being more affordable than the competition. 

Even so, however, there are those who feel the video controller is not powerful enough. 

As such, Palit and Gainward have released GeForce GTX 680 boards with 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM instead of 2 GB. 

The names of the add-in boards are Palit GeForce GTX 680 JetStream and Gainward GTX 680 Phantom 4GB. 

Both of them have special coolers (three fans on Palit's board, two on Gainward's), but their specifications are pretty much the same. 

In fact, the GPU and memory clock speeds are identical to those on the 2 GB reference graphics adapter. 

In other words, Palit and Gainward just strapped two extra GB on these beasts, claiming that it helps with “rich realistic and explosive HD gaming performance under maximum resolution setting.” 

For those who want numbers, the GK104 GPU (graphics processing unit) works at 1,006 MHz (base) and 1,058 MHz (GPU Boost technology). Meanwhile, the VRAM has a frequency of 6,008 MHz. 

Basically, the extra memory will make triple or quad-monitor setups work even more smoothly, assuming there was room for noticeable improvement in the first place. 

Gainward's GeForce GTX 680 Phantom 4GB is fully detailed on its product page, while Palit has its own section of the website dedicated to the GeForce GTX 680 JetStream

Of course, prospective buyers should keep in mind that they will have to pay a small fortune for these things. Then again, people who can afford to make top-tier systems probably have no financial constraints. Still, caution is always good.

Complete Details of Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 5X




Well-known motherboard manufacturer, Taiwanese company Gigabyte was reportedly scoured by nosy enthusiasts who managed to unveil the complete details about the company’s most powerful GTX 680 card.

The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 5X video card comes with a very special custom PCB (printed circuit board) that will help Nvidia’s Kepler-based GPU to reach record high overclocks. It has an 8 Phase VRM that uses NEC Tokin 0E907 Proadlizer capacitors and Proselytizer film to enhance the card’s power filtering. Like all high-end Gigabyte video cards and mainboards, the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 5X video card comes with Gigabyte’s well-known Dual BIOS technology.

The power is supplied through the use of a 8-pin power connector and a 6-pin one. Now let’s get to the interesting part. The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 5X video card’s GPU is running at a very high 1137 MHz right from the factory. This is a significant 13% base overclock, and when the Turbo option kicks into action, the frequency will rise to 1202 MHz. That’s a 13.6% frequency increase.

The four Proadilizer chips will supply a maximum of 240 watts to the GPU and memory chips. We’ve already described in detail the very efficient cooling system here. Unfortunately, the five 40 millimeter fans are not evacuating the heat outside the case like it would be desirable, but even so, the load temperatures are well kept in check at a low 60 degrees Celsius. This is a very good result considering that Anand’s great review tested the card at a medium 78 degrees Celsius load temperature using the default cooler.

Therefore, we can see that the reference cooler lets the card be around 30% hotter when compared with Gigabyte’s GeForce GTX 680 WindForce 5X cooling solution. The launch should probably come in the June / July time frame and the initial price estimations are around 870 USD. That would be around 670 EUR for the European enthusiasts if the prices stay put for the following weeks.

ZOTAC Presents Impressive Custom GTX 680 Video Cards




Zotac, Macau-headquartered video card company, has just announced the GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition and the GeForce GTX 680 OC 4GB Edition. With these cards, just as usual, Zotac tries its best to differentiate themselves from the other similar products on the market.

As with most of their products, the company is very successful when it comes to the originality of the design and the functionality of the cards.

The Zotac GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition comes with quite a large cooling system that has two 90 millimeter fans controlled by PWM, that are blowing air over a large aluminum heatsink.

The heatsink is very efficient thanks to the four copper heat pipes that help the GPU distribute the heat evenly among the fins.

The Zotac GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition comes with clock speeds of 1,110 MHz (core base frequency), 1,176 MHz (core boost active), and the usual 6,008 MHz for the memory.

These are quite a bit higher than Nvidia’s reference speeds of 1,006/1,058/6,008 MHz.

The Zotac GeForce GTX 680 OC 4 GB Edition, has the same Nvidia reference board design with ZOTAC’s brand stickers. The card packs double the memory amount when compared to the reference board.

This version sticks to Nvidia reference clock speeds, but the 4 GB of GDDR5 memory will certainly make a difference in very demanding 3D applications.

Both cards have the same display output layout: two dual-link DVI connectors and one HDMI, along with a DisplayPort.

Power is supplied by the two 6-pin PCIe power inputs and both cards include Assassin's Creed 3-game packs.

In Japan, both cards are priced the same – 750 USD. That would be around 580 EUR for the European gamers, which is quite expensive, if we may say so.

Leadtek WinFast GTX 680 Has 4 GB Memory




Not about to let Micro-Star International get all the attention for its 4 GB NVIDIA video card, Leadtek has released a device that follows a similar concept, but only so far.

Truth be told, the only things that Leadtek's product and NVIDIA's own 4 GB GTX 680 have in common is the amount of memory and, in the case of the latter's Non-OC version, the clock speeds as well. Other than that, Leadtek's WinFast GTX 680 4 GB is designed quite a bit differently, as it actually sticks to the reference design of NVIDIA's normal, 2 GB board. Where MSI applied a custom cooler and special components (solid capacitors for example), Leadtek retained the reference fansink and the printed circuit board. The 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, clocked at 6,008 MHz, are distributed among sixteen chips. The interface is 256-bit wide. Meanwhile, the GK104 graphics processing unit, for those who have forgotten NVIDIA's default settings, operates at 1,006 MHz.

Naturally, the GPU Boost Technology is present and accounted for as well, which means that the speed can be pushed to 1,058 MHz automatically, when needed. Furthermore, for connectivity to any sort of monitor or HDTV, or more of them at once, the company retained the two DVI ports, HDMI and DisplayPort. As for power, Leadtek's WinFast GTX 680 4 GB runs on the energy provided by two 6-pin PCI Express power connectors. Shipments will begin in August, according to Hermitage Akihabara, for 59,800 JPY, or $765 / 622.85 Euro. That's a fairly high number, all things considered. Then again, exchange rates don't usually have any bearing on product prices, so it's more likely that the US price will be $569 (like that of the Zotac GTX 680 4GB) and the EU tag of 580-600 Euro (like the Palit Jetstream).

Colorful iGame GTX 680, World First Fanless GTX 680 Video Card Details




Colorful a Chinese video card manufacturer seems to be determined to make a strong and lasting impact in the video card market. Fortunately for video card enthusiasts, the company is not willing to do this by using lower prices, questionable quality or high sales volumes, but by using innovative designs and powerful configurations.

The company has decided to launch the world’s first fanless Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 graphics adapter and it has been working on the design from some months. Colorful’s innovative design uses a two part cooling system with detachable components that have absolutely no moving parts. The main piece is the principal cooling heatsink that’s directly attached to the video card’s PCB and the GPU. Enthusiasts will be pleased to find out that there is a second cooling part that will attach to the main one in order to provide additional heat dissipation capacity to allow the user to overclock the device or use it in hotter environments that require additional cooling.

The video card will come with double the reference video memory quantity, OverClockers.ua reports. Therefore, Colorful has decided to use 4 GB of GDDR5 video memory on its fanless Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 video card. This will ensure higher frame rates and generally better performance when running 3D applications in very high resolutions. The new card will be called Colorful iGame GTX 680 and will also come with various overclocking features. We’re not quite sure if overclocking features are the best fit for a quiet, fanless video card, but we’re glad Colorful is working hard on building a quality graphics adapter.

The video card comes with a dual 8-pin power connector setup and a dual-VRM design with a special “extra” VRM card that will be user connectable when needed for overclocking. Unfortunately we will have to wait until September to see the card on the store shelf.
