MWC 2012: Nokia 808 PureView Goes Official with 41MP Camera

Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia unveiled to the world the Nokia 808 PureView handset that packs a high-resolution 41 megapixel photo snapper, thus setting a new industry standard in camera phones.

The new mobile phone arrives on shelves with a brand new technology inside. This Nokia PureView imaging technology combines high-resolution sensors, exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia developed algorithms, and should result in great imaging capabilities for Nokia devices.

The new device packs on the back an impressively high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor, that features both high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology.

“At standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) this means the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable,” the leading handset vendor explains.

“At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum) it means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details.

“With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in email, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in any conditions.”

Not only does the Nokia 808 PureView sport great imaging capabilities, but it also features full HD 1080p video recording and playback. Additionally, the new device was packed with 4X lossless zoom and with Nokia Rich Recording – it is the first device in the world to include it.

Through Rich Recording, users will be able to record audio at CD-like levels of quality, previously only possible with external microphones.

Not to mention that the new mobile phone comes with exclusive Dolby Headphone technology, through which stereo content becomes a personal surround sound experience with any headphones and Dolby Digital Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound playback.

The new Nokia 808 PureView mobile phone will arrive on shelves sometime in May with a price tag of 450 Euros attached to it ($600).
