The Microsoft Media Platform is a powerful framework for developing video streaming services and HTML 5, Silverlight, Windows 8 Metro and Windows Phone multimedia players.

At its core, the platform is split in two major parts:

The Microsoft Media Platform supports live streaming, on-demand streaming, content protection, analytics feedback, format conversion and data encoding.

Open sourced under the Microsoft Public License, when needing to deploy a state of the art online video service, the platform provides an alternative to high-cost commercial services.

Microsoft Media Platform development is handled via its CodePlex pages (this one for the Silverlight and Windows Phone framework, and this one for the HTML 5 and Windows 8 Metro framework).
