RIM to Lay Off 2,000 More Employees

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion, currently struggling to regain its foothold on the mobile market, is reportedly getting ready to give the pink slip to at least 2,000 workers soon.

The company’s financial issues have determined it to plan the layoff of around 10 percent of its workforce, the latest reports on the matter suggest. Apparently, the company is set to start sending people home in the next two weeks, a recent report on The Globe and Mail shows. The smartphone designer has a global workforce of around 16,500 people at the moment.

During the past years, RIM has been constantly losing ground on the smartphone market in front of Android and iOS (Samsung and Apple lead the market at the moment), something that should change as soon as the next-generation BlackBerry 10 platform becomes available.
