  • iPod Touch 4G;
  • iPod Touch 5G;
  • iPad 2 Wi-Fi;
  • iPad 2 3G;
  • iPad 2 2012;
  • iPad 3 Wi-Fi
  • iPad 3 Wi-Fi + 4G;
  • iPad 4 Wi-Fi;
  • iPad 4 Wi-Fi + 4G;
  • iPad Mini Wi-Fi;
  • iPad Mini 3G.

Requirements:

  • evasi0n 1.0;
  • A device from the above list with iOS 6.0, 6.0.1 or 6.1;
  • A Linux distribution with a recent version of libimobiledevice library, kernel >= 2.6.24, and libgtk+-2.0 >= 2.24.13.

WARNING: Make sure that your iPad, iPhone or iPod device is supported (see the supported devices list at the beginning of the article) and that is was already updated to iOS 6.x. Those of you who require a network unlock DO NOT PROCEED with the tutorial!

ATTENTION: ALWAYS make a backup of your device(s) before the jailbreak procedure! Make sure the battery is charged over 50% and that the device is connected to the computer via the USB cable! Not meeting these requirements will result in a failure!

Step 1 – Download and execute evasi0n

You can grab a copy of the evasi0n jailbreak tool right now from here. Download it on your desktop and extract the file from the archive. Both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported.

Connect your iDevice and double-click the executable for your architecture and you will see the following window...

Step 2 – Jailbreak your iDevice

Your device will be detected, and all you have to do now is to click the "Jailbreak" button. DO NOT PUSH ANY BUTTONS! DO NOT TOUCH THE COMPUTER! DO NOT REMOVE ANY CABLE!

When the progress bar on the evasi0n tool is complete, and the evasi0n icon appears on your device, launch it to complete the jailbreak process!

When evasi0n finished the jailbreak process, reboot the device and you'll see the Cydia icon on the home screen of your iDevice, which means that the jailbreak process is over and you can restore the backup. Watch the video below for more details!

Download evasi0n iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak Tool

The evad3rs’ new jailbreak tool – evasi0n – has been officially released to the public, enabling any iDevice owner with iOS 6 installed to perform an untethered jailbreak using any computer.

Compatible with Macs, Windows PCs, and Linux computers, evasi0n is the latest jailbreak effort on behalf of a new group of hackers dubbed the “evad3rs.” The hack is “untethered,” meaning users will be able to carry around their jailbroken devices without fear that a reboot will cancel the mod. Evasi0n is compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 6.0 through 6.1. Users are urged to back up their iOS installation prior to starting the jailbreak process.

“Avoid all iOS and iTunes related tasks until evasi0n is complete. Why not just enjoy a brief break from the computer to stretch your legs?” say the evad3rs. Visit the group’s site for the download, and enjoy!

Prepare Your Device Now for iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak

The much hyped evasi0n jailbreak tool is sitting at 98% completion and will be released later today for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux PCs. Before you do anything, read this.

The requirements list on evasi0n.com says you need just five minutes to perform the jailbreak, as well as a computer running Windows XP (or later) Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (or later), or Linux x86 / x86_64. Your device will need to be running iOS 6.0 through 6.1, and you’ll also be using the USB cable that shipped with your iDevice to tether it to your PC. An important “read me” accompanies the jailbreak, stating that all users should seriously consider backing up their device to iTunes or iCloud before starting the jailbreak process.  The team doesn’t expect any nightmarish scenarios to emerge as a result of people using evasi0n to hack their iDevices, but in the offset chance that something does go wrong, it never hurts to have the contents of your phone / tablet safe and sound on a secondary medium.

“Backup your iOS device using iTunes or iCloud before using evasi0n. This way you are sure to never lose any data if something wrong happens,” according to the evad3rs. Perhaps more importantly, users who employ a passcode lock will need to switch this setting off prior to using evasi0n. The evad3rs explain, “Please disable the lock passcode of your iOS device before using evasi0n. It can cause issues.” After beginning the jailbreak process, users will have to be patient and refrain from interrupting the process. “Be patient while the jailbreaking process is running, don't start iTunes or Xcode in the meanwhile. The best is to not touch the computer until the end of the jailbreaking process,” reads another don’t.

Finally, according to the hard working team of developers behind evasi0n, “if the process gets stuck somewhere, it's safe to restart the program, reboot the device (if necessary by holding down Hold and Home until it shuts down), and rerun the process.”

Windows Phone 7.8 Start Screen Potentialy Use Massive Data also Drains Battery

After several months of waiting, Microsoft and Nokia have delivered the Windows Phone 7.8 update as promised.

However, it appears that all smartphones that were upgraded to WP7.8 are now affected by a critical bug that will massively take advantage of data usage, thus draining the battery. Discovered by the guys over at WP7RootTools, this problem only affects Windows Phone 7.8 handsets. So far there have been no reports that the issue might cause huge data usage on devices powered by Windows Phone 8 smartphones. It appears that when a new application is pinned on the start screen, it makes a request to a server for an icon to be put on live tiles and that website is unavailable, causing an endless loop to try and get that data.

This results in huge data usage and battery drainage. However, as we mentioned earlier, this issue does not affect Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.0 devices as Microsoft made it so that particular app sending requests to a server is set to try again in 30 minutes, so it will not continue to use data. Windows Phone 7.8 developers made it so Wi-Fi connection enters sleep mode 1 minute after the screen is locked, in order to save battery.  The good news is if users are in Wi-Fi range, this issue with the start screen will take advantage of Wi-Fi connection rather than data network.

Obviously, this will drain the phone’s battery even faster, but at least you won’t have to pay a lot of money on your next bill. For the time being, there are no known workarounds that might fix this issue, so make sure you check the application pinned on the live tiles is correctly displayed and has the correct icon attached to it, otherwise the phone will continue to use data.

Evasi0n Untethered iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Tool Released Today

The evasi0n jailbreak is almost ready! The evad3rs have posted 95% progress with the confirmation that the next step was the tool’s official release.

Evasi0n is now undergoing “final testing and preparation,” according to the team of hackers who is responsible for the software. A jailbreak tool targeting all iDevices running iOS 6.0 through iOS 6.1, evasi0n will be released as soon as today, February 4, 2013. At least that’s what hacker @planetbeing says. “Yes, tomorrow is a concrete release date. It's also the only release date we've ever given,” writes the jailbreak expert. On the evasi0n.com site, the hackers have released an important “read me” note mentioning a few dos and don’ts.

Future users of the jailbreak tool are told to back up their device using iTunes or iCloud, as well as to disable the passcode lock – “it can cause issues,” according to the evad3rs. As the jailbreak is running, users must be patient and wait for the process to end. “Be patient while the jailbreaking process is running, don't start iTunes or Xcode in the meanwhile. The best is to not touch the computer until the end of the jailbreaking process,” according to the notice. Some users might experience hangs or crashes. The team says not to worry. Simply restart the process and, if necessary, reboot the iPhone / iPad / iPod touch.

“If the process gets stuck somewhere, it's safe to restart the program, reboot the device (if necessary by holding down Hold and Home until it shuts down), and rerun the process,” according to the hackers. Evasi0n will be a free download for Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows users. In other words, pretty much anyone with a relatively new iDevice and a computer will be able to jailbreak iOS 6 today.

New Nokia 808 PureView Software Update, Adds New Twitter and Flickr Options

Even though Nokia recently confirmed the PureView 808 will be its last Symbian smartphone, it appears that the Finnish company continues to deliver update for handsets powered by Belle OS.

The folks over at AllAboutSymbian report a new software update is available for Nokia 808 PureView, as well as for other Belle FP2 smartphones. According to them, the update bring a few improvements to application that are already installed on the devices, such as Flickr and Twitter.

The Colorizit application included on the PureView 808 receives a refresh via this update, while Twitter and Flickr get Image share options. Those who own a Belle FP2-powered device will probably notice that there a two update available for download, which means this is a multi-stage software update. Windows 8 Pro Available for Only $15 (€11) Due to Unpatched Bug

Microsoft officially increased Windows 8 pricing on February 1, so consumers who now want to buy the Pro upgrade edition have to pay no more, no less than $199.99 (€146) for a license.

But even if the discount campaign ended a couple of days ago, a loophole in the Windows Upgrade Program allowed users to purchase Windows 8 Pro for only $15 (€11). Basically, the Windows Upgrade Program allows Windows 7 PCs buyers to make the move to Windows 8 at a special price. The strange thing is that anyone could actually register for the program because the online registration form didn’t actually check when a Windows 7 computer was purchased. TNW writes that this bug was first discovered in October, but Microsoft was yet to fix it on February 1 when the discount campaign for Windows 8 officially came to an end.

While we’ve heard that a lot of users had actually managed to exploit the loophole and buy a Windows 8 copy for only $15, Microsoft reacted very fast and patched the upgrade system to ask for a Windows 7 key. What’s more, consumers who attempt to register for the program without a genuine key are provided with a message saying they’re not eligible for the discount. “Unfortunately, based on the information you provided during the registration process you are not eligible for the upgrade offer,” the message reads according to the same source.

The upgrade offer expires on February 28, but those who want to purchase Windows 8 at the full price will have to pay $199.99 (€146) for the Pro upgrade version and $119.99 (€87) for the standard upgrade. The Windows 8 Pro Pack comes with a new price as well, so you’ll need an extra $99.99 (€73) for this one too. Last but not least, the Windows 8 Media Center Pack, previously available at absolutely no cost for those who already purchased the new operating system, is currently sold for $9.99 (€7.3).

Nokia Pulse Discontinued on Symbian and MeeGo Platform

Owners of Nokia Symbian and MeeGo devices will no longer have the possibility to download and install the Nokia Pulse beta application, the Finnish mobile phone maker has announced.

Those who have already downloaded and installed the app on their handsets will be able to continue to use it, but no new downloads will be available. The move falls in line with Nokia’s focus on the Windows Phone platform, the Nokia Pulse team notes in a blog post, adding that they will be working on the development of the app for this operating system moving forth.

“We will now officially conclude the Nokia Pulse beta trial for Symbian and the N9 and will no longer offer the download option of Pulse for these platforms on Beta Labs,” the team notes. The desktop web support for Pulse will also be discontinued, starting with March 5, 2013, the team added.

Samsung GT-B9150 Spotted in Benchmarks, Brings Full HD Screen

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has been recently rumored to plan the launch of a new series of smartphones running under Google’s Android operating system, and the Samsung GT-B9150, which has just been spotted in GLBenchmark, was one of them.

The smartphone is said to arrive on shelves with a full HD touchscreen display, while being powered by the Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Furthermore, the handset should sport a 1.7GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU when launched, along with a quad-core Mali-T604 GPU, as SamMobile notes.

Apparently, it is yet unclear whether the new device will arrive on shelves as a smartphone or a high-end tablet PC, since the specs list would fit both of them. However, chances are that the device will be made official in the not too distant future, most probably before the end of this month, so stay tuned.

HTC Shows M7 at Company Event

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation appears to be pretty excited about the upcoming M7, and has already started to showcase the device publicly, although it hasn’t unveiled it officially as of yet.

At the company’s year-end party, HTC CEO Peter Chou showed the Android handset, and even shot a series of photos with it. He even says that the event proved an opportunity for him to test the camera of the phone, and then started snapping photos of the crowd in front of him, as the video available courtesy of nexttv shows.

Furthermore, HTC’s CEO supposedly suggested that the device would be called M7 in the end, as can be seen in the video above. The company is expected to make the new smartphone official at a press event on February 19, with a 4.7-inch 1080p screen, 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13MP camera on the back, as AndroidOS notes.
