BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 Confirmed for UK

Research in Motion UK has just added the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 to its portfolio, but has yet to announce the smartphone's release date and price tag.

Unveiled last month in Dubai, the smartphone is built in collaboration with Porsche Design and is expected to arrive in stores by the end of the year.

Rumor has it that the Porsche Design P’9981 will sell for no less than US$2000 (£1255 or 1465 EUR), but the price has yet to be confirmed in the UK.

The phone is built on the same chipset platform embedded onto BlackBerry Bold 9900, which combines a 1.2 GHz single core Qualcomm MSM 8655 processor, 768 MB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

However, the phone is made of premium materials, including forged stainless steel frame, hand-wrapped leather back cover, and sculpted QWERTY keyboard.

Aside BlackBerry 7 operating system, the Porsche Design P’9981 comes pre-loaded with an exclusive Porsche Design user interface on top, as well as the Wikitude World Browser augmented reality application.

In addition, RIM also confirmed that the phone will be delivered with exclusive PINs that allows users to identify themselves as P’9981 smartphone owners.

Unlike the original BlackBerry Bold 9900, the Porsche Design P'9981 allows users to expand storage up to 40GB via its microSD card slot.

The rest of the features seems to be similar with Bold 9900's, including the 5-megapixel camera on the back, which offers autofocus, LED flash, face detection, image stabilization, as well as HD (720p) video recording capabilities.

There's also NFC support included, along with active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, which makes makes voice calls clearer even in noisy environments.

On the connectivity front, the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 offers HSDPA and HSUPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.
