CeBIT 2012: G.Skill's 16 GB Quad-Channel DDR3 Kit at 2.66 GHz

G.Skill made sure to attend the 2012 edition of CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, so we aren't overly surprised to hear that it has launched a new memory product.

Nevertheless, we did feel our eyebrows rise a bit when we read just how the company decided to describe its new product.

After all, it isn't every day that an IT player feels sure enough of itself to say that its new RAM offering is the best there is.

Granted, describing something as “world's best” isn't exactly rare, but G.Skill probably prompted its rivals to get even more serious when it said that its new RAM kit was the greatest quad-channel out there.

“To provide overclocking enthusiasts the best memory solution, G.Skill R&D team is always dedicated to push DDR3 performance to boundary,” a statement by the company reads.

“This ultimate DDR3 2666MHz 16GB kit is without a doubt the best quad channel memory solution on the market; it allows extreme overclockers to unleash the maximum power of their X79 systems.”

If the four 4 GB modules really work at 2,666 MHz, we can see why G.Skill would make such a claim.

The Ripjaws Z 16GB features latencies of CL10 12-12-31 and was demonstrated on an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard.

Furthermore, the CPU (central processing unit) employed in the test was an Intel Core i3-3960X central processing unit.

The voltage settings were not specified, but the memory sub-system did provide a bandwidth of 85.3 GB, so this really is the fastest memory solution announced, so far, for the Intel LGA 2011 socket. Too bad Ivy Bridge CPUs aren't going to ship for quite a while.

Of course, it is only a matter of time before rival companies match G.Skill, perhaps even surpass it. And if not, the DDR4 standard will blow out of the water everything available today.
